& Charlotte

I had a ghastly dream

A horrible horrible dream

I had committed an unspecified crime

Against Madame Guillotine

And I was being punished

They had laid my head

On a wooden block

I was looking

Towards the blade

This would be my last image

I was also naked from the waist down

My legs were akimbo and secured

Bets were being taken

Would I shit or piss myself

As the blade fell

Madame Guillotine

In an act of revenge

Had ordered that a slip

Should be pinned to my palm

Would you have won

It is hard to say

As the pin was not secure

The slip soon drifted in the breeze

And then nothing

Nothing at all

You dreamt of your own death

No I woke up in a sweat soaked bed

That is the advantage of dreams

Guy Grissom

I had injured my leg

It was heavily stitched

From my hip to my ankle

Ugly black cotton stitches

Soon the time came for removal

I returned to the hospital

Which was no more than

A decaying outbuilding

When I opened my eyes

The stitches were gone

My leg was pristine

I had suffered no scar

The railway booking hall

Had retained its original geography

I was not wearing a suit

Which was the minimum requirement

I was wearing scruffy jeans

And a large white cotton shirt

Which in my thoughts

Was rather feminine

I knew that I would be sent directly home

In disgrace Grace my name is Charlotte

In disgrace Grace I was born in Charlotte

I was trying to place your accent

Charlotte by name Charlotte by birth

I knew that I would lose my position

So I stayed on the train

Past my normal station

I closed my eyes

The scar had returned

My jeans were torn

The stitches were present

Our city was undulating with ancient buildings

There were many market stalls

Selling severed heads

Some were kept in crates under the tables

These consisted of many species

Races genders

Without known limit

And then I found you bloodied but pure

There was a look of serenity on your face

I supposed a slight but fading smile

Under your remains

I found another severed head

Which was familiar far too familiar

Its dried and cracked lips were

Were carelessly stitched together

There was no hint of a smile

The eyes were black liquid blank

No life was evident or supposed
