Town in the Desert"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>In my dream Catherine Deneuve and Jean Reno were sitting on a veranda<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>It is the middle of the day and they are enjoying lavender\u00a0coffee<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Their daughter\u00a0who is played by Astrid Berges-Frisbey is deaf<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>She is haunting the shadows but is acutely\u00a0aware of her parents conversation<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Helene is looking out towards the desert and tells her husband that she can see a small town<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><i>It is hovering above the dunes\u00a0<\/i><\/div>\n<div><i>\u00a0<\/i><\/div>\n<div>Jean tells her that it is a mirage as no such town exists<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><i>You are witnessing nothing\u00a0\u00a0<\/i><\/div>\n<div><i>\u00a0<\/i><\/div>\n<div><i>Nothing exists in that wilderness\u00a0nothing survives\u00a0<\/i><\/div>\n<div><i>\u00a0<\/i><\/div>\n<div><i>I can see people walking along its streets\u00a0<\/i><\/div>\n<div><i>\u00a0<\/i><\/div>\n<div>Jean calls his daughter from the shadows\u00a0and asks her if she can see a thriving town deep amongst the dunes<\/div>\n<div><i>\u00a0<\/i><\/div>\n<div>Agnes does not answer as she has failed to read her fathers lips<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>It is an expression of disinterest<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Her father is used to her insolence and ignores his daughter<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>She fiddles with the collar of her cotton shirt and returns to her book<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>It is an American pulp novel<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>In the distance a tall Arab boy is walking\u00a0towards their home<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>He is carrying a machete<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><i>The Arab has come to murder us and rape our beautiful daughter<\/i><\/div>\n<div><i>\u00a0<\/i><\/div>\n<div>Jean raises an imaginary rifle and shoots the Arab dead<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>He does this three times as ghosts are not easily destroyed<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Agnes rushes down the wooden steps and holds the dying Arab in her arms<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>He is bleeding heavily from a head wound<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>His blood is slowly staining her cotton shirt<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>She stares stares at her parents who are drinking lavender coffee in the shade of their house<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>The Arab dies and Agnes kisses his wound<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>She tastes his fatal blood<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><i>Our daughter is walking into the desert\u00a0<\/i><\/div>\n<div><i>\u00a0<\/i><\/div>\n<div><i>She will perish in the heat\u00a0<\/i><\/div>\n<div><i>\u00a0<\/i><\/div>\n<div><i>Do not worry Helene as I have seen her taking this journey many times before\u00a0<\/i><\/div>\n<div><i>\u00a0<\/i><\/div>\n<div><i>She is listening to the music of the desert\u00a0<\/i><\/div>\n<div><i>\u00a0<\/i><\/div>\n<div><i>And always returns to her shuttered room\u00a0<\/i><\/div>\n<div><i>\u00a0<\/i><\/div>\n<div><i>\u00a0<\/i><\/div>\n<div class=\"yj6qo\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"adL\"><\/div>\n<div
