Was a good idea on paper<\/p>\n
But to place an unclothed statue<\/p>\n
In a smart residential district<\/p>\n
Well that is going too far<\/p>\n
When a man is honoured<\/p>\n
With a statue<\/p>\n
He remains clothed<\/p>\n
There are no naked statues<\/p>\n
Of the good and great<\/p>\n
So why is Mary naked<\/p>\n
I am asked frequently<\/p>\n
The statue is not of Mary<\/p>\n
So do not get too excited<\/p>\n
I reply in a rather tired voice<\/p>\n
Much irritated by the stupidity of the questions<\/p>\n
It is a statue of all women<\/p>\n
Rising from the shackles of their sex<\/p>\n
That is quite obvious to anybody that thinks clearly<\/p>\n
