{"id":5233,"date":"2020-11-12T09:50:55","date_gmt":"2020-11-12T09:50:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/stuartpoetry.art\/?p=5233"},"modified":"2020-11-12T09:51:43","modified_gmt":"2020-11-12T09:51:43","slug":"nude-descending-a-staircase","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stuartmillerosborne.com\/index.php\/2020\/11\/12\/nude-descending-a-staircase\/","title":{"rendered":"Nude Descending a Staircase"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>When I was fifteen I can remember that a television programme called Aquarius caused a stir when it showed a scene from British Sounds by Jean Luc Godard in which a naked woman both ascends and descends a staircase in rather plain house.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Little was left to the imagination and the woman\u2019s pubic bush was clearly seen which to a fifteen-year old in the late 1960s was something quite different especially on television<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Although I had seen women naked before there was always something ordered about their nudity in whatever environment it occurred<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>For some reason this short clip cemented itself into my subconscious and I often recall it when I visit houses with similar staircases<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>I have copy of Marcel Duchamp\u2019s 1912 painting Nude Descending a Staircase No 2 on the landing above my main staircase<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>But the effect although pleasurable is not the same due to the geography of my house<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>I have however noticed that it is rare that either members of my family or guests ever stop on the short landing where the painting is hung<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>This in part I contribute to the motion of the painting<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>I also have a short recording of Edward Muybridge\u2019s Woman Walking Downstairs which was created in 1887 in my collection<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Like in the Godard movie the model\/actress is totally naked although nearly eighty years separate these images<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>This work inspired Duchamp who in turn inspired Godard but in turn it has yet to inspire me and I believe that this short collection of rather meaningless words is all that I am ever likely to write on the subject<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>When I was fifteen I can remember that a television programme called Aquarius caused a stir when it showed a scene from British Sounds by Jean Luc Godard in which a naked woman both ascends and descends a staircase in rather plain house. &nbsp; Little was left to the imagination and the woman\u2019s pubic bush [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":3,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":[],"categories":[1],"tags":[],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/stuartmillerosborne.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/5233"}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/stuartmillerosborne.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/stuartmillerosborne.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/stuartmillerosborne.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/3"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/stuartmillerosborne.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=5233"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/stuartmillerosborne.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/5233\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/stuartmillerosborne.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=5233"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/stuartmillerosborne.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=5233"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/stuartmillerosborne.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=5233"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
