We are sitting on a beach on the edge of town<\/p>\n

There are not many people near us<\/p>\n
\n
I am watching the sand martins at play<\/p>\n
\n
They do not seem to have a care in the world<\/p>\n
\n
I wished that I shared their optimism<\/p>\n
\n
You and I are relaxed at present<\/p>\n
\n
But life is just hiding from us<\/p>\n
\n
I can see it between the trees<\/p>\n
\n
It will meet us on the beach path<\/p>\n
\n
With all of its problems<\/p>\n
\n
These small birds accept our interference<\/p>\n
\n
After all this beach does belongs to them<\/p>\n
\n
But they do not complain<\/p>\n
\n
Occasionally I can see them watching the sunbathers<\/p>\n
\n
They feign an interest in our activities but remain aloof<\/p>\n
\n
As our worlds will not mix<\/p>\n
\n
You pass me a cigarette but our only lighter is empty<\/p>\n
\n
I smile as I know that life has broken cover yet again<\/p>\n
\n
And is heading in our direction<\/p>\n
