The gardens were almost deserted on the day of our visit<\/p>\n
Which surprised us both<\/p>\n
As the day was raw<\/p>\n
Yet the gardens were cooler<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Fountains and canals were everywhere<\/p>\n
And were full of fish<\/p>\n
Of many colours<\/p>\n
There was a magic in the air<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
The climb to the summit of the gardens<\/p>\n
Was a steep adventure<\/p>\n
Best undertaken in stages<\/p>\n
As even the shorter breezes were hot<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
On our journey upwards<\/p>\n
Only the crickets were our constant companions<\/p>\n
Loyal but unseen<\/p>\n
Who shared their slow summer jazz<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
We then met the shy lovers of the higher levels<\/p>\n
Some were hidden in the shade of the close trees<\/p>\n
Whilst others were stretched out on the damp grass<\/p>\n
Languid in the white sunlight<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
They ignored our passing<\/p>\n
Sharing their intimacy only with each other<\/p>\n
And no other creatures<\/p>\n
We respected the mysteries of their day<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
At the summit we found a tower<\/p>\n
Sturdy yet crumbled with time<\/p>\n
It offered a panorama of the city<\/p>\n
Which we politely refused<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
For our day was quite spent<\/p>\n
And we had already planned our descent<\/p>\n
Towards the planned avenues of the city<\/p>\n
And the handsome station of the cross<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
