{"id":6128,"date":"2020-12-27T12:03:52","date_gmt":"2020-12-27T12:03:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/stuartpoetry.art\/?p=6128"},"modified":"2020-12-27T12:40:58","modified_gmt":"2020-12-27T12:40:58","slug":"boxing-day-2020","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stuartmillerosborne.com\/index.php\/2020\/12\/27\/boxing-day-2020\/","title":{"rendered":"Boxing Day 2020"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On Boxing Day 2020 I walked 2.5km along the coastal path<\/p>\n<p>And sat with my wife daughter and two granddaughters<\/p>\n<p>In the rough shelter of a white but scruffy beach hut<\/p>\n<p>The weather was about 11 degrees with a brisk westerly wind<\/p>\n<p>Storm Bella was expected and this chilled the troubled air<\/p>\n<p>The advice was to keep warm and this is what I did<\/p>\n<p>By running after my granddaughters and playing juvenile games<\/p>\n<p>The sun was fast disappearing behind the banking Dover clouds<\/p>\n<p>And the sea changed from silver to grey in a matter of ten unhappy minutes<\/p>\n<p>On Boxing Day 2020 I kissed a long dead dog fish fully on the lips<\/p>\n<p>This was final act of love that the poor fish experienced on its journey towards extinction<\/p>\n<p>My granddaughters were disgusted with me but it was all for a ten pound dare<\/p>\n<p>That or joining the Boxing Day Naked Charity Swim off of Walmer Beach<\/p>\n<p>I would have chosen the latter but I was aware of my developing cold<\/p>\n<p>Nudity means little to me and I do not care who sees my arse<\/p>\n<p>But I am a delicate fellow who is prone to cold and chills<\/p>\n<p>So I stood on the storm ridge and watched forty-six bare bums enter the waves<\/p>\n<p>I recognised my local newsagent and his rather large tattooed wife joining in the fun<\/p>\n<p>And knew that I would not be able to get a newspaper unless I walked to the distant garage<\/p>\n<p>On Boxing Day 2020 I travelled with my granddaughters to the low lower beach<\/p>\n<p>Where the sands were often exposed by the savage winter storms<\/p>\n<p>The girls carved their names delicately in the rough damp sand<\/p>\n<p>And watched as the incoming tide accepted their gifts with a gentle passion<\/p>\n<p>On my return journey I tripped over a railway sleeper which was half hidden<\/p>\n<p>And fell roughly on to the sea worm pebbles without injury<\/p>\n<p>Much to the amusement of those present including some gulls<\/p>\n<p>At about thirty minutes past two we decided to return to our nearby homes<\/p>\n<p>As we were getting quite chilled and the hamper was almost empty<\/p>\n<p>I returned to the nearby fishing boats to take my final photographs<\/p>\n<p>But they had lost their beauty under the sullen skies<\/p>\n<p>The day was beginning to darken as the savage storm slowly approached<\/p>\n<p>It was time to withdraw from our beloved beach<\/p>\n<p>And enjoy the comfort of our warm winter logs<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>On Boxing Day 2020 I walked 2.5km along the coastal path And sat with my wife daughter and two granddaughters In the rough shelter of a white but scruffy beach hut The weather was about 11 degrees with a brisk westerly wind Storm Bella was expected and this chilled the troubled air The advice was [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":3,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":[],"categories":[1],"tags":[],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/stuartmillerosborne.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/6128"}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/stuartmillerosborne.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/stuartmillerosborne.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/stuartmillerosborne.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/3"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/stuartmillerosborne.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=6128"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/stuartmillerosborne.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/6128\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/stuartmillerosborne.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=6128"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/stuartmillerosborne.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=6128"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/stuartmillerosborne.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=6128"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
