I was watching a village football match<\/p>\n
When my son was booked for a foul<\/p>\n
I protested to the referee saying that a child<\/p>\n
Should not be punished for such a petty misdemeanor<\/p>\n
The referee said that rules were rules<\/p>\n
And that he was right to book my son<\/p>\n
I asked him to interpret the rules<\/p>\n
As blind obedience starts wars<\/p>\n
It was then that he showed me a red card<\/p>\n
And threatened to abandon the game<\/p>\n
As I left the field I told him<\/p>\n
That football is a beautiful game<\/p>\n
And ugliness should not be allowed to corrupt its beauty<\/p>\n
The referee then abandoned the match<\/p>\n
Which we were winning six-nil<\/p>\n
The club was subsequently fined and thrown out the cup<\/p>\n
And I was suspended for a year from all duties<\/p>\n
I bear no malice towards the referee who I see quite often<\/p>\n
As handing out parking tickets on a daily basis<\/p>\n
Is cruel enough to injure even the sanest of men<\/p>\n
