Last month the Royal Family visited my small town<\/p>\n

As I was unimportant I did not meet them<\/p>\n

And spent the day in my perfumed bath<\/p>\n
\n
\n
When the splendour had subsided<\/p>\n
\n
I visited the beach<\/p>\n
\n
How fragrant I was<\/p>\n
\n
\n
I picked up a pebble<\/p>\n
\n
And awoke it from its slumbers<\/p>\n
\n
It began to speak to me in not much more than a whisper<\/p>\n
\n
\n
The King had visited the beach<\/p>\n
\n
And had trodden on the pebble quite blindly<\/p>\n
\n
Followed by the Queen and the young Prince<\/p>\n
\n
\n
I enquired of objections<\/p>\n
\n
But there were none<\/p>\n
\n
As the King was dying<\/p>\n
\n
\n
The Queen although not of mature years<\/p>\n
\n
Was also affected by the deadly condition<\/p>\n
\n
Which would kill her in three summers<\/p>\n
\n
\n
The modest prince had caressed the pebble<\/p>\n
\n
When eyes were averted and had promised it wealth<\/p>\n
\n
As he wanted to exchange roles for just a year and a day<\/p>\n
\n
\n
No regal dust stays on the beach for very long<\/p>\n
\n
As it is distributed quite soon by the sea breezes<\/p>\n
\n
But pebbles are immortal and witness the years<\/p>\n
\n
\n
Until they too are worn down by the driven waves<\/p>\n
\n
And become the sand on the royal beach<\/p>\n
\n
Which is gathered in with much respect by the loyal and gentle sea<\/p>\n
