But I am not troubled at all<\/p>\n

In the first I saw a huge spaceship<\/p>\n

Crash into a high rise block of apartments<\/p>\n
\n
With devastating results<\/p>\n
\n
But I could not tell anyone<\/p>\n
\n
As my room was empty<\/p>\n
\n
\n
In the dream that followed<\/p>\n
\n
I was with you<\/p>\n
\n
With my camera in my hand<\/p>\n
\n
As we were in the middle of an exciting and colourful festival<\/p>\n
\n
I tried to take the opportunity<\/p>\n
\n
To record the scene<\/p>\n
\n
But my camera was empty<\/p>\n
\n
And you had vanished from view<\/p>\n
\n
\n
\n
As a photographer I have always considered it an advantage to begin a relationship with your subject be it an inanimate object or a person<\/p>\n
\n
When I say a relationship I really mean that I begin a friendship with the person I am working with<\/p>\n
\n
I feel that this improves the quality of the photographs I take<\/p>\n
\n
When I work on commercial shoots I often find that I do not have much time to get to know the models and because of this the results can be artificial<\/p>\n
\n
But this is often what the customers are looking for so the discipline can work both ways<\/p>\n
\n
Yesterday I decided to take a photograph of a bowl of apples which had come from our orchard<\/p>\n
\n
But before I started I spent the morning with the apples in front of me<\/p>\n
\n
They were living creatures and I needed their friendship<\/p>\n
\n
\n
\n
I have not told anyone about my dreams<\/p>\n
\n
But they trouble me<\/p>\n
\n
In other dreams I am on a speeding train and cannot pay my fare<\/p>\n
\n
Or in a shop paying for my goods<\/p>\n
\n
When I drop my purse<\/p>\n
\n
And cannot find the coins<\/p>\n
\n
Which have rolled in all directions<\/p>\n
\n
\n
I am a successful photographer and I live with my family in seclusion<\/p>\n
\n
We return to civilisation whenever we choose to return<\/p>\n
\n
At first it was an experiment as we had tired of the city<\/p>\n
\n
But we soon found that we liked it<\/p>\n
\n
Some have accused me of being reclusive<\/p>\n
\n
But I disagree with that idea<\/p>\n
\n
\n
I am highly amused by my next assignment<\/p>\n
\n
As I have been asked by Harpers<\/p>\n
\n
To shoot a series of photos<\/p>\n
\n
Celebrating the simplicity of life<\/p>\n
\n
I think they are expecting Walden like results<\/p>\n
\n
But I am not so sure that is what they will receive<\/p>\n
\n
As I am no Thoreau<\/p>\n
\n
I often wonder if the man himself<\/p>\n
\n
During his time near Walden Pond<\/p>\n
\n
Had troubling dreams<\/p>\n
\n
If I could ever meet him<\/p>\n
\n
This would be the first question<\/p>\n
\n
I would ask<\/p>\n
\n
\n
\n
His famous work has often been referred to as performance art<\/p>\n
\n
Perhaps I am a performance artist<\/p>\n
\n
And not a photographer<\/p>\n
\n
I obsessively record our day to day lives in minute detail<\/p>\n
\n
As the seasons change around us<\/p>\n
\n
I want people to share this stage<\/p>\n
\n
But I will not share my dreams<\/p>\n
\n
That linger beneath the surface<\/p>\n
\n
