Two things happened to me this afternoon on the beach<\/p>\n
Firstly I saw a beautiful ship about two miles offshore<\/p>\n
It was easily the most beautiful ship that I had ever seen<\/p>\n
Above deck level it was pure white without inhibition<\/p>\n
Even her elegant funnel was white brave white brave white<\/p>\n
The rest of this memorable ship was dark blue blue almost black<\/p>\n
The contrast was amazing as she sailed towards the horizon<\/p>\n
It was as I was watching this most beautiful ship<\/p>\n
That I noticed an object half buried in the shingle<\/p>\n
On closer inspection I found it to be a DVD wrapped in cellophane<\/p>\n
A Star is Born was the name of the movie featuring Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper<\/p>\n
Quite why it was on the beach was a complete mystery to me<\/p>\n
But nonetheless I picked it up as I knew that the sea would soon claim it.<\/p>\n
I had actually seen the movie and thought to be cliched and quite poor<\/p>\n
This said the movie at times hinted at the dark soul of Amerika<\/p>\n
Bradley Cooper and Sam Elliott gave quite relaxed performances<\/p>\n
And Lady Gaga was appealing without her theatre<\/p>\n
I tucked it in my blue and white beach bag knowing that it would remain there<\/p>\n
As I had no plans to watch it or make friends or family suffer<\/p>\n
What interested me was the impossibility of the possible<\/p>\n
On the day that I had watched the most beautiful ship in the world<\/p>\n
Slowly sail towards tomorrows sun I had found a DVD<\/p>\n
It had obviously been lost by a beachcomber earlier in the day<\/p>\n
But why had it been half buried was it part of an elaborate charade<\/p>\n
Was this an art installation a found object or a game of chance<\/p>\n
Had I been the unscripted protagonist of a drama unseen<\/p>\n
It was whilst I was considering the meaning of meanings<\/p>\n
That I noticed that my beautiful ship had almost claimed the horizon<\/p>\n
And that her blues and whites had now turned green grey green grey<\/p>\n
