In my dream I woke up in Japan<\/p>\n
I was sitting behind a sturdy barrier<\/p>\n
In an ultra modern railway station<\/p>\n
Around me there were a number of rather excited schoolchildren<\/p>\n
A Bullet Train was about to pass at speed<\/p>\n
Each of the children had their camera focused on the running line<\/p>\n
But I had no camera nor did I have a phone<\/p>\n
So I remained seated on my bench reading haiku<\/p>\n
A short while later a low long coloured train<\/p>\n
Screamed through the dormant station<\/p>\n
It was travelling at over 300 kph<\/p>\n
I was moved yet totally unmoved<\/p>\n
Northern Europeans rarely show emotion<\/p>\n
Or at least that is what I thought<\/p>\n
A young boy of about nine years<\/p>\n
Noticed that I had dropped my book of poems<\/p>\n
He reached under the stainless seat and retrieved it<\/p>\n
I thanked him in English and knew that he had understood me<\/p>\n
He showed me his recording of the train passing<\/p>\n
And then his teacher called him away<\/p>\n
Nothing else happened as when I opened my eyes<\/p>\n
I saw you asleep beach blond lazy in morning sun<\/p>\n
I knew then that I had returned from my dream<\/p>\n
